Las Vegas Christmas Vacation
Vegas has long been a happy place for me, which I DID NOT expect! I went there first for my sister’s wedding in 2008 but we were broke, stayed off strip, etc… but I was intrigued.
The second, third, fourth times I went was for WPPI photographers conferences and stayed at MGM Signature. Those WPPI trips changed my life, and grew me as an artist and person. I LOVE the desert and have many fond memories in and around Vegas.
G & I joined my sister out there this last summer and I got him totally hooked, so we visited for a little December vacation, arriving there on Christmas when the girls went to be with their dads. We stayed at the Luxor in our first ever comped rooms (baller status… jk).. we loved the room, but the hike was a bit much to the parts of the strip we visit most.. ok ok, so Sugarcane in the Venetian is our go-to restaurant when everything else is packed so, we walked there like 3 times. LOL. It was worth it. Get the torched salmon crispy rice and goat cheese croquettes. Just do it.
We literally just walked the strip and ate and played slots, walked the strip, ate more, people watched, etc.. On this trip - we went to Hell’s Kitchen for the first time and had the Wellington - also for the first time. It’s worth the trip, just to say you did it. We ate at SuperFrico and saw the show Opium. Ridiculously funny and worth the trip - but I would skip the signature chicken parm and opt for something else, it was just ok. FYI- if you make reservations at the restaurant, they send a deal to you for like $50 tickets to the show. Or at least they did for us.
We tried every crispy rice we saw and Sugarcane reigned supreme. Primrose at the Park MGM was a good spot for brunch too! We visited Resorts World to check it out, went back to Planet 13.. enjoyed all the Christmas decorations (the conservatory was PACKED but all floral and unbelievably cool) and the weather was comfortable so it was the break that got me through winter this year for sure! G is the best travel buddy and I just love how calm our trips are. I’d apologize for the 1000 selfies, but I am posting those for myself when I am like 75 and want to look back at how young and springy we were.
